PDF Inspector is an online tool for analyzing PDFs and converting them into Markdown. It is designed for documents that standard text extractors often struggle with, including scanned files, image-based PDFs, complex layouts, and documents that mix several content types.
Before starting the conversion, the tool checks each page to see whether it contains digital text, scanned content, images, or a combination of these. It then chooses the best extraction method for that page.
PDF Inspector can rebuild important document elements such as headings, paragraphs, lists, links, code blocks, columns, right-to-left text, and tables with or without visible borders. When Automatic OCR is turned on, only pages without reliable embedded text are processed with OCR. Pages that already contain usable digital text are handled through faster native extraction.
The tool also supports CID fonts and common encoding problems that may otherwise cause missing, unreadable, or scrambled text.
Files selected from the user’s device are processed locally in the browser with WebAssembly and Web Workers. This means the PDF does not need to be uploaded to an external server.
Users can preview the generated Markdown, compare it with the original document, and download the final file. PDF Inspector is useful for research, documentation, content migration, knowledge bases, and other workflows that require clean, structured text. It also supports batch conversion for processing several PDF files at once.
